Mivolisin itsetestillä laboratoriotutkimuksella voidaan analysoida tarkka pitkäaikainen verensokeriarvo (HbA1c), joka kertoo viimeisten kahden tai kolmen kuukauden keskimääräisen verensokeritason. Testi tehdään sormenpäästä otettavalla veripisaralla, joka laitetaan mukana tulevalle kuivaverikortille. Verensokeri, joka tunnetaan myös glukoosina, on yksi kehon tärkeimmistä energianlähteistä. Pitkään koholla olevat verensokeriarvot voivat viitata sokeriaineenvaihdunnan häiriöön (tyypin 1 tai 2 diabetes).
