Face sunscreen: fluid, cream or stick?

Short answer: A fluid or cream is usually easier to spread generously and evenly over the whole face. A stick is especially practical for targeted areas and top-ups. Always follow the labelled SPF, apply enough and reapply regularly.

No sunscreen gives complete UV protection. Clothing, shade and avoiding intense midday sun still matter.

1. SUNDANCE Hydro+ SPF 50+ Fluid/serum

The 50 ml SUNDANCE Hydro+ SPF 50+ is labelled SPF 50+. VivaVoss stocks GTIN 4067796139310; it is fragrance-free and lists glycerin, panthenol and squalane. Current product information says it absorbs quickly and can be worn under makeup.

When does the fluid make sense?

Choose it when you want a dedicated face sunscreen with a lighter, fragrance-free texture. A light feel does not mean less product is needed.

2. SUNDANCE SPF 50 Cream

The 100 ml SUNDANCE SPF 50 is intended for face and décolletage. Its listed cream formula includes glycerin, vitamin E and fragrance.

Important version note:

VivaVoss stocks GTIN 4067796255676. dm now shows an SPF 50+ successor with a different GTIN, so successor claims were not transferred. The delivered pack remains decisive.

3. SUNDANCE Face & Lips SPF 30 Stick

The 20 g SUNDANCE Face & Lips SPF 30 is labelled SPF 30 and targets areas such as the nose, forehead, cheeks and lips. VivaVoss stocks GTIN 4066447579529.

Is the stick for the whole face?

Its label includes face and body. In practice, the stick is especially convenient for targeted areas and top-ups, but sufficient, even coverage is still required for the full face.

Important version note: dm now lists a stick with another GTIN. Details of that successor were not mixed with the VivaVoss version.

Which format suits you?

  • Fluid/serum: for a light, fragrance-free face texture with SPF 50+.
  • Cream: for classic cream texture, face plus décolletage and a 100 ml format.
  • Stick: for targeted top-ups on exposed areas or lips.

The best texture is the one you use in sufficient quantity and reapply. A higher SPF does not compensate for applying too little.

How to apply sunscreen correctly

  1. Apply generously and evenly before sun exposure.
  2. Remember ears, hairline, neck and décolletage.
  3. Reapply, especially after swimming, sweating or towel drying.
  4. Avoid intense midday sun and use clothing, a hat and shade.
  5. Keep babies and young children out of direct sunlight.

Even high-SPF products do not provide complete protection. Avoid eye contact and follow the directions on the pack.

How we compared

On 5 August 2026, the VivaVoss editorial team checked current Shopify records, GTINs, pack sizes, images, inventory and directions. We also reviewed current dm pages for the exact or successor versions and European Commission sunscreen guidance. No laboratory, UVA or wear test was performed.

Frequently asked questions

Is face sunscreen fluid better than cream?

Not universally. They mainly differ in texture, format and skin feel. Correct labelling, sufficient quantity and reapplication matter more.

Can I apply a sunscreen stick over makeup?

Targeted top-ups may be practical, but rubbing can move makeup. The priority is achieving sufficient, even coverage and following the pack directions.

Is one morning application enough?

No. The reviewed directions require reapplication, especially after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

Is SPF 50 twice as strong as SPF 25?

SPF is not a linear “twice as strong” scale. Real-world protection also depends heavily on applying enough and applying it evenly.
