What is Mivolis?
Mivolis is the health own-brand of the German drugstore chain dm, introduced as the successor to “das gesunde Plus”. Very different product classes are sold under the name: food supplements, foods and teas, cosmetic care products, medical devices and over-the-counter medicines. Each class has its own legal requirements for labelling, permitted claims and use.
In practice this means a statement such as “vegan”, “suitable for children” or an authorised health claim applies only to that specific product, never to the brand as a whole.

Comparing magnesium: what actually matters
Magnesium products differ in three ways: the magnesium compound used, the elemental amount per daily dose and the format.
- Elemental amount is what counts. What matters is not the weight of the compound but the elemental magnesium it contains, shown on the nutrition table in mg and % NRV. The EU reference intake is 375 mg per day.
- Respect the daily maximum. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) recommends no more than 250 mg of magnesium per day from food supplements, split across at least two servings. The recommendation applies from four years of age. Higher intakes can cause loose stools or diarrhoea.
- Keep compound claims realistic. Organic compounds such as citrate are more water-soluble than oxide. However, the evidence on actual absorption is mixed, and comparative wording such as “better bioavailability” is not an authorised health claim in the EU. What you can reliably compare is the amount per daily dose and how well you personally tolerate it.
EU-authorised claims for magnesium include: magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to normal muscle function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system. These may only be used where the product contains the required minimum amount.

Comparing vitamins: daily dose, not tablet size
With vitamins, per-tablet figures are regularly misleading. Compare the values per recommended daily dose instead and convert them into a percentage of the EU reference intake (NRV) – that figure is printed on every pack.
- Single nutrient or combination: multivitamins cover many nutrients in small amounts. For a specific need, a single-nutrient product is often the better fit.
- Check for overlap: multivitamins, collagen products and mineral complexes often contain the same nutrients, such as zinc, vitamin D or vitamin C. Add the daily doses together before combining products.
- Fat-soluble vs water-soluble: vitamins A, D, E and K are stored in the body, so the amount deserves a closer look. Vitamin D labelling varies by product and target group.
Authorised claims for vitamin C include: vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, and contributes to the normal function of the immune system. The EU reference intake is 80 mg per day.

- Identify the product class. Food, food supplement, cosmetic, medical device or medicine? This determines use, warnings and which claims are permitted.
- Read the full declaration. Check the complete ingredient or INCI list, not just the headline ingredient.
- Compare the daily dose. Nutrient amount and % NRV per recommended daily dose – and how many daily doses the pack contains.
- Choose the format. Tablets, capsules, powders, sticks, sprays and effervescent products differ in convenience, additives (sweeteners, sodium) and cost per daily dose.
- Read the warnings. Age limits, allergens, guidance for pregnancy and breastfeeding, possible interactions with medication.

The EU reference intake is 375 mg per day from all sources. For additional intake from food supplements, the BfR recommends a maximum of 250 mg per day, split across at least two servings, from four years of age.
Can I combine several Mivolis supplements?
